GUWAHATI: With the construction of multiple flyovers distributed over the city, the citizens are already facing massive problems because of traffic congestion and now the massive potholes in different parts of the city have put the lives of the citizens at risk.

Several potholes have appeared near the Ganesh Mandir roundabout near Ganeshguri, making it very difficult for motorists, especially those using two-wheelers. Another massive pothole near the Vishal point on AT Road creates problems for all vehicles. Also, the Hatigaon road is completely in chaos because of the incompletion of the developmental projects.

One of the residents said, "The recent accident that took the life of one should make the authorities more vigilant and work immediately. We cannot travel properly because of these potholes. There are many rickshaw pullers who have met with accidents as they cannot pull because of these potholes. A single vehicle cannot commute without getting stuck in those potholes. It has really become a matter of concern for all the citizens."

It must be remembered that the recent death of a girl on her way to school because of a hole dug on the side of the street was not properly repaired or marked. In such a condition, these potholes pose an immense risk to all vehicles as well as pedestrians using these roads of Guwahati. A resident of the Bhetapara locality raised questions as to when the main road will be repaired and relieve them of the back-breaking trips. He also pointed out that the Beltola-Bhetapara road is jam-packed because of the overload of vehicles on the same road.
