GUWAHATI: The death anniversary of former Chief Minister of Assam Sarat Chandra Sinha was observed at Lakhidhar Bora Kshetra by Sarat Chandra Sinha Nyas and Asom Prakritik Kobi Sanmilan on Wednesday.

Many eminent personalities of Assam paid tribute to late Sinha and enlightened the gathering by recalling his memories and works.

Daughter of Sarat Chandra Sinha , Kalpana Roy Sinha said that it’s unfortunate that people of Assam praises him for what he has done but no one follows him. “He never promised of anything. He did everything that he could do for this land,” she added.

Senior advocate Satyen Deka said, “The fight the Assamese are now fighting to save the existence of Assam actually started with Sarat Chandra Sinha. This is because of the active role that he played during that time that the undivided Goalpara district was included in Assam. He also played an important role in bringing the capital Assam to Dispur.” Remembering his good deeds Deka appealed to the government to follow his path.

Sharing his memories with late Sinha, Haidor Hussein said that Sinha never received his recognition in the past, and during his life time. “I hope the new generation will recognize him and pay the respect that he deserves. However, he is still recognized amidst those who love this land selflessly,” Hussein said. The others present on the occasion include Bolin Kuli, Brajanath Sarma, Dilip Hazarika, Krishnakanta Mahanta and many others.
