GUWAHATI: Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly Debabrata Saikia wrote a letter to Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javedkar urging him to institute an enquiry to establish whether negligence/incompetence on the part of the Oil India Limited (OIL) authorities and private exploration/drilling company led to the blowout and subsequent inferno at Baghjan oilfield. Saikia stated that the enquiry should check how and why the work was outsourced to a private company. He urged the Minister to affix responsibility and take punitive action against the top brass of OIL as well as the private company engaged by OIL.
