Guwahati: The leader of the Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly wrote to the Governor of the state and mentioned that the current State Administration of Assam under CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is creating a serious administrative blockage and that the ruling party has also resorted to unleashing unruly mobs to sabotage the peaceful Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra by brutal physical force and criminal attacks against senior leaders.

In the letter, he mentioned that on Sunday, during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra, the vehicle carrying senior AICC leader Jairam Ramesh was forcefully stopped by supporters of the ruling BJP Party and tore the sticker on his car and verbally abused him. At Jamugurihat, APCC President, Bhupen Borah was physically assaulted by the supporters of the BJP leading to a bleeding nose. About 20-25 unruly miscreants even targeted Rahul Gandhi. At various locations, even journalists were not spared by the mobs. The police personnel also remained silent spectators from a safe distance.

Even before the incidents at Jamugurihat, since day 1 of the yatra, the BJP Government under the leadership of Himanta Biswa Sarma has been using police and civil administration to disrupt the yatra. At the meeting grounds and pad-yatra, anti-yatra posters, banners, etc were displayed under the protection of Assam police, though we requested for our police protection. Again in Majuli, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur, posters, banners, flexes, etc welcoming Rahul Gandhi were torn by miscreants chanting Jai Shree Ram at night.

After making a complaint to the DGP, he tweeted that arrangements for all kinds of protection for the yatra were made. However, it is a blatant lie as no such arrangement was witnessed. On Sunday, after the meeting in district Sonitpur, the Yatra convoy was attacked, causing damage to the car of the NSUI President. Other NSUI activists were also physically assaulted. The incident took place despite an earlier incident of assault on the Pradesh Congress President. This has happened due to slack from Assam police to provide the necessary security for democratic Yatra.

Although applications were made for necessary permission for this Yatra, the nervous State Government has indulged in administrative delays and blockage to create all possible hurdles for the Yatra. The damage to banners, posters, and placards at night by the miscreants of the BJP was recorded on camera. In spite of this hooliganism, the administration has not taken any preventive/punitive action. In view of this serious law and order situation prevailing in Assam at present Congress leader brought the matter to the attention of the governor and requested immediate remedy while demanding a judicial enquiry for the physical attack on the APCC president.
