GUWAHATI: "The Congress party has not forged a grand alliance in Assam. The decision to stitch alliance will be taken by the AICC (All India Congress Committee)," said APCC in-charge and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh.

Addressing the mediapersons here on Friday, Singh said, "Though the APCC core committee has taken decision to form grand alliance. The final decision will be taken by the AICC. The remarks given by various Congress leaders about forming alliance are their personal opinion."

In this regard, Singh appealed to the party workers to follow the party discipline. On being questioned about comments made by various leaders about change in leadership of the APCC, Singh said, "It is "The Congress party has not forged a grand alliance in Assam. The decision to stitch alliance will be taken by the AICC (All India Congress Committee)," said APCC in-charge and AICC general secretary Jitendra Singh.

Addressing the mediapersons here onhe party's internal matter whether the APCC chief will be changed or not. As a president Ripun Bora is doing good work. The Congress is like a big family with members of different opinions. Some MLAs fall under the trap of media and give their personal opinions. I have asked the MLAs to restrain from making such remarks."

Dwelling on the issue of Mughals raised by the BJP, he said, "The BJP is doing division politics. But we will not let them succeed. The 2021 election will not only be the Congress' election but also the people's. We will be victorious in the election."

Reacting to the reports of 'Pakistan Zindabad' slogans raised in Silchar by AIUDF workers, he said the incident should be investigated. "No one will tolerate Pakistan Zindabad slogans," he said.

Further, he questioned who the Chief Minister of Assam is.

"Chief Minister Sonowal doesn't comment on serious issues. However, State Finance Minister HimantaBiswaSarma plays like a loud speaker on every issue. The Chief Ministers of other States were actively addressing the public during lockdown period. But in Assam, only Minister Sarma was seen interacting with the public," Singh opined.

He also alleged that the BJP government has not fulfilled the promises made in the vision documents. "Despite making promises, the government didn't grant ST status to six ethnic communities. The government is working as a mafia. Apart from entry tax, the government takes mafia tax on the commodities that enter the State. Due to the price hike, the condition of common people has been devastated," Singh added.

In the press meet, APCC president Ripun Bora, leader of Opposition in the Assam Legislative Assembly DebabrataSaikia, MPs GauravGogoi and PradyutBordoloi among other leaders were also present.
