Dispur College, Tea Academy of NETA sign MoU on tea course

GUWAHATI: Dispur College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Tea Academy of North East Tea Association (NETA) under the initiative of its Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and the Entrepreneurship Development Cell (EDC).

Principal of Dispur College, Dr Navajyoti Borah, pointing out the extremely limited number of courses on tea, said that the collaboration between Dispur College and Tea Academy, NETA would go a long way in promoting tea as an academic discipline and generating employment for the students. He also expressed his belief that such an association would provide further validation and recognition to the 3-month long Certificate Course on "Tea Brewing, Blending and Tasting" initiated by the EDC of Dispur College, the first batch of which has already passed and received their certificates. The course will be conducted under the supervision of Dr Mausumi Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of Management and Convenor of EDC and is the first of its kind in the entire Northeast.

Bhrigu Bhushan Goswami, Co-founder of Vetasha Ethnic Hub and Tea Tavern, Guwahati, asserted how tea, a beverage with numerous health benefits, has always been an integral part of Assam's history and hence, should be promoted as such.

Manoj Jallan, in his speech, assured that the tea gardens and factories of NETA would always be open to any interested member from the Dispur College fraternity and emphasized that the MoU would promote mutual collaboration between the academia and the industrial sector. Assistance in all aspects of the certificate course offered by Dispur College was also assured by the Chairperson of NETA, Kamal Jallan.

After the signing of the MoU, a practical demonstration of 'tea tasting' was conducted as a way of showcasing to students the professionalism involved in the tasting of tea.

The MoU signing ceremony was attended by Dr Ajoy Mitra, Coordinator, IQAC, Dispur College, and many esteemed dignitaries including NETA Chairman, Kamal Jallan, Director, NETA Tea Academy, Manoj Jallan, Adviser, NETA, Bidyananda Barkakoty, Vice Chairman, NETA, Ajay Dhandharia, and Secretary, NETA, Manisha Sharma.
