GUWAHATI: The LDP Yuva Morcha has slammed the State BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) stating that it has failed to control the flood situation.
The Morcha stressed that the State's flood situation has become increasingly dire and uncontrollable.
"From Shadia to Dhubri, almost every district in Assam is now under water. More than 3.5 million people in 26 districts of the State have become homeless. In parallel, these people have not received adequate assistance from the government. It seems Government promises and announcements are confined to paper only but there is no step taken to implement these plans further," said Ashrini Borah, media assistant secretary Yuva morcha.
The Morcha alleged that there is no government help or administration in the vicinity of the floods. In addition, lack of animal feed and shelter has resulted in loss of a large number of livestock, it added.
"We cannot stop natural disasters but at least we can forearm ourselves with onset of monsoon and can save thousands of lives if we want," Borah asserted.
Further, he expressed that it is a pity that the every year the people has to suffer, because this problem is not new in Assam.
"So why isn't the government aware of the safety aspects of Rise in time? Why government is promising funds in name of welfare to helpless people, where are the schemes working?" he questioned.
Yuva Morcha president Chandrapal Baruah underlined that the inadequate provision of shelter, food and medical care to the flood victims has made it clear that the government lacks goodwill towards competence, efficiency and resilience.
Baruah sharply criticized the government for its 'reckless and irresponsible actions' in the face of the cries of the people and thousands of animals.
