GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) has submitted a memorandum to the convener of External Examination Cell of Gauhati University over a slew of issues faced by the Divyangjan candidates who wants to apply for vacant posts in the Agricultural Department.

In a statement, PSSA general secretary Nripen Malakar said that the Gauhati University had published an advertisement on February 26 asking job aspirants to apply for 1,837 vacant posts in the Agricultural Department.

"The advertisement stated that only 27 seats are reserved for the Divyangjans. However, according to the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, four per cent jobs should be reserved for Divyangjan candidates," said Malakar. Further, he underlined that there is no separate form for the Divyangjan candidates in the job registration website (https://xex.gauhati.ac.in).

"The Divyangjans should have an age relaxation of 10 years according to the Act. Moreover, the website has no provision to upload certificates of Divyangjan candidates. Thus the aspiring candidates are being deprived," Malakar added.

The PSSA had also sent a copy of the memorandum to the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, Assam, Debeswar Bora demanding his intervention. In his response, Bora requested the convener of External Examination Cell of Gauhati University to take necessary action and to implement the provision of the Act so that it may not lead to litigation.
