GUWAHATI: The Pratibandhi Suraksha Sangstha, Assam (PSSA) on Monday stated that due to its continuous efforts, the Social Welfare Department (SWD) has released the funds of Deendayal Disabled Rehabilitation Scheme (DDRS).

In a release, PSSA secretary Nripen Malakar alleged that due to the negligence of the SWD, the Divyangjan beneficiaries didn't receive the DDRS funds for 2019-20 and 2020-21.

"While 720 beneficiaries received funds for the year 2019-20, as many as 310 beneficiaries received the funds for 2020-21. Under the DDRS, every beneficiary should get Rs 20,000. However, today as a part of the first installment, Rs 10,000 was given to the beneficiaries," said Malakar.

The PSSA demanded the SWD to release the second installment of the DDRS funds at the earliest.

Further, Malakar underlined that the PWDs (Persons with disabilities) were also deprived of the Deendayal Divyangjan Pension Scheme (DDPS).

"The SWD didn't give the third and fourth installment of the DDPS to the beneficiaries. After long-standing protests from the PSSA, the Finance Department has sent the funds to the SWD. Meanwhile, the SWD has started the process to transfer the amount of the third installment of the scheme to the beneficiaries' accounts," Malakar added.

The PSSA demanded the release of the fourth installment of DDPS by the end of April.
