Drains Covered With Planks: Death Traps For School Children

GUWAHATI: A girl, studying at class five, in St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School got stuck in a wooden plank placed over the drain in MC Road Chenikuthi on Monday. Though the girl sustained a little injury, fortunately, a few passerby could managed to pull her up, immediately after she got stuck in the broken wooden plank. It is not new to witness, open drains and gutters covered with wooden planks jeopardizing and even sometimes, claiming lives of pedestrians. In most areas of the city including GS road, GNB road and Maniram Dewan Road, etc the construction of pavements are being carried out. Hence, the gaping holes or the open drains are making it extremely risky to walk in the pavements.
