GUWAHATI: The editor-in-chief of a local web portal in Assam along with four others have been arrested on charges of tarnishing the image of a veteran Assam Minister.

According to reports, the web portal published malicious news tarnishing the image of the State Minister along with his daughter hence directly tarnishing the pure relationship of father and daughter.

The news item which went viral on social media was highly condemned by the netizens and regarded it to be a cheap act of "Yellow Journalism".

Further reacting to the false allegation the ADGP L&O, GP Singh on his Twitter wrote, "As a man in public life and father of two daughters, I take strong exception to people maligning father-daughter bond. Society needs to wake up to such basal thought process amongst a section of people, perhaps for material gain."

The top cop further added that as a father, I am deeply saddened, however, as a Cop, I promise resolute action against perpetrators and conspirators.

Meanwhile, with reference to the salacious news article about a dignified Minister of Government of Assam and with an attempt to malign familial bond, Dispur police station have registered a case no 612/2021 under Section 509 IPC r/w sec 14/21 POCSO Act.

Notably, GP Singh also advised people not to give air to such attempts since posting such pictures with malicious intention attracts provisions of POCSO Act as Assam police would take strong action against all such attempts under stringent provisions of POCSO Act.

Meanwhile, the minister took to his Twitter handle and just wrote in sadness, "Kindly tell her that the little girl in the picture is my daughter."

The Assam government shall take action against all persons irrespective of their place of residence who use any of the social media platforms to maliciously use such platforms for furthering this conspiracy, the tweet from the top cop added.
