GUWAHATI: After the direction of the Election Commission of India, the Election Department, Assam has extended the timeline for filing of election expenditure till this month's end. The decision to extend the expenditure report deadline till June 30 from the earlier June 2 was done due to the prevailing COVID situation, State Election Commission sources said. As per the guidelines of the Election Commission of India (ECI), candidates who had contested in the Assam Assembly elections 2021 have to submit their spending report to their respective returning officers. Expenditure observers appointed by the ECI would critically examine the reports. A total of 946 candidates contested the elections this year. This election, the ECI had capped all poll-related expenses for each candidate at Rs 30.80 lakh.
