GUWAHATI: Eminent singer Arun Das breathed his last on Sunday following a protracted illness. Arun Das, known for his heartfelt interpretations of love songs, passed away on Sunday morning at around 4:45 a.m. He was 71.

Arun Das gave popular songs to the Assamese industry, like 'Tumi Janu Jana Sun', 'Kiman Morom Tumale', 'Xasisilu Gopone Gopone', and others. Das was a master of his craft, and his voice satisfied his admirers in both joy and sorrow. Fans will never forget his unforgettable performances on stage with the guitar in his hands and his renditions in their hearts, even after he is gone. The last rites of Arun Das was performed at Navagraha.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences over the death of Arun Das. The Chief Minister shared on his social platform X (formerly Twitter), "I am deeply saddened to hear the news of the passing of Arun Das, a beloved singer who has left the world of Assamese music empty. He has delivered songs like 'Moi Eti Mukoli Pokhi, Ubhoti Ghoroloi Buli' and other evergreen heart-touching songs that have made people remember him. I pray for his eternal peace and express my condolences."

Former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal expressed deep condolences and said, "I am deeply saddened by the passing away of our beloved artiste Arun Das, who gave a new dynamism to the Assamese music industry with his compassionate voice. His melodious songs will always remain alive among listeners. My deepest condolences are with the grieving family."

Cultural Minister Bimal Bora also shared on his social media platform X (formerly Twitter) about the death of Arun Das, saying, "Deeply saddened to learn about the demise of noted Assamese singer Arun Das. His remarkable contribution to the realm of Assamese music & culture has left an indelible mark. My heartfelt condolences go out to his grieving family members and well-wishers in this hour of grief. Om Shanti."
