GUWAHATI: The All Assam Government NPS Employees' Association (AAGNPSEA), an umbrella organization several Government employees' bodies, on Monday called off its proposed strike on June 15 following discussions with State Finance Minister Ajanta Neog.
Talking to The Sentinel, AAGNPSEA president Achyutananda Hazarika said that the organization was formed to carry out agitations and instead it was formed to oppose the 'social malaise' of the National Pension Scheme (NPS). The members of the association have been registering protests only in order to press for scrapping of the NPS and restroration of the Old Pension Scheme.
Hazarika added that representatives of the AAGNPSEA met Finance Minister Neog, who met them on behalf of the Chief Minister, on June 12 and the decision to call off the proposed agitational programme on June 15 because of the "positive response" of the Minister. He said that Neog told them that the Government is aware of the problems faced by the employees due to the NPS.
Hazarika said that the Finance Minister further informed them the Government has already formed a high-level committee to work out a reasonable solution to the matter.
Neog also assured them that steps will be taken for expeditious settlement of all pending NPS cases in the State, Hazarika said. She further assured them that temporarily applicable Death-cum-Retirement Gratuity (DCRG) and Compassionate Family Pension (CFP) will be made permanently applicable, he said.
Hazarika informed the Finance Minister also responded positively over the Government's announcement of 2021 that an employee would receive DCRG of Rs 10 lakh even if he or she had worked for only 10 days.
