Guwahati:
At a time when most people cannot do without their help and their services,
hundreds of workers working for the 108 ambulance service took to the streets
on Friday in Guwahati to protest against several issues including
non-availability of facilities for the pilots, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)s and Emergency Response
Officer (ERO)s working almost round the clock for the ambulance service.
Since the start of COVID in March these workers have
been at the forefront in the medical fraternity's war against COVID.
But now after over seven months, the workers have alleged that their remuneration is not at par, they have been denied proper healthcare facilities and many of them are yet to get their employment regularised.
They claimed that from day one to till date they have been working for the social service keeping their families aside, but despite that, the Government provide them with nothing, except making fake promises that the govt will give something to them.
A 108 worker said, "There is no fixed time for our job,
we have to work for 24 hours while the actual duty hour is 12 hours. We will
submit a memorandum to the government and if the government do not fulfill our
demands within 1 month we will again
protest against it."
Workers are now demanding better wages and facilities
There are about 3000 workers working with the 108 Mritunjay ambulance service of Assam.
