GUWAHATI: The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has urged the State government to ensure adequate relief materials to the flood-affected people of the State, security of their lives and property and rehabilitation soon.

In a statement issued to the media on Thursday, AASU president Dipanko Kumar Nath and general secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi said that the government should provide on a war footing food materials, baby food, food for expecting mothers, medicines for patients and all other essential commodities to the affected ones. Fodder for livestock should also be supplied, besides ensuring their safety, they said.

Is has also demanded of the government to ensure supply of paddy saplings and other requirement to farmers so as to let them plant paddy afresh after the flood waters recede.

The government should also pay ex gratia to the next of kin of those killed in the floods, besides paying them compensation announced in 2019. It should also pay compensation to flood-affected people the loss they had to incur due to floods this year.
