GUWAHATI: Former president of the All Moran Students' Union (AMSU) Arunjyoti Moran joined the BJP formally at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan here on Thursday, in the presence BJP Assam Pradesh president Ranjeet Kumar Dass.
Moran was one of the front-running leaders in the anti-CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) movement in the State. Earlier too, a number of leaders who spearheaded the anti-CAA agitation in the State joined the BJP.
A number of Congress leaders, including Assam Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (APYC) secretary Suresh Hazarika and Assam Pradesh Mahila Congress (APMC) president Renu Sarma, also joined the Congress on Thursday.
Speaking on the occasion, Dass said, "The BJP met with success in the recently held BTC (Bodoland Territorial Council) and the TAC (Tiwa Autonomous Council) polls as the party has been moving ahead by taking all communities and ethnic groups of the State together. A section of the Congress leaders and MLAs are willing to join the BJP. They've talked to us. However, we welcome workers more than leaders from the Congress."
State BJP's organizational general secretary Phanindra Nath Sarma and other leaders of the party were present at the joining ceremony.
