GUWAHATI: The Association of Advanced Pharmacy Practitioners (AAPP) demanded an inquiry under Chief Minister Vigilance Cell or through an independent agency of the scam pharmacists registered under Section 32(B) of the Pharmacy Act, 1984, to find out who was related to the scam.

Talking to The Sentinel, general secretary Gyanendra Haloi said, "There were allegations that most of the pharmacies registered under Section 32(B) of the Pharmacy Act, 1984, were fake. And in the same way, more than 3000 pharmacists were registered under this act. A section of the pharmacists moved the Gauhati High Court against the issue of fake pharmacists. The Court asked the Assam Pharmacy Council (APC) to cancel the registrations of the fake pharmacists. Through a Governor's notification issued on February 21, 2022, the APC cancelled the registration of 1,374 fake pharmacists. Through another Governor's notification issued on May 6, 2020, the APC cancelled the registration of 437 other fake pharmacists. But still, these fake pharmacists are working in the state. We demand an inquiry to find out who was involved in registering the fake pharmacists."

A general meeting of AAPP was held at the conference hall of APC under the presidentship of Gajen Kalita on Sunday. The meeting discussed the various issues faced by the pharmacists, like the present crisis of fresh registration, fake pharmacist registration and scams, and the formation of the APC.

Haloi said that, "Considering the smooth functioning of the APC and keeping in view of the fresh registration crisis and total stagnation of the APC, the meeting unanimously decides to move the Gauhati High Court to conduct the APC election as soon as possible as per the existing Government order if the government fails to conduct the election immediately. The meeting decided to allow AAPP or any pharmacist to participate and handle the court case.

Further, Haloi said, "The meeting allowed AAPP to place its views before the Court regarding the fresh registration problem and to pass an order to sort out the registration process, and the same approach may also be placed before the Government of Assam for an amicable solution to this crisis."
