Guwahati: Amidst the ongoing protests in the country against the Centre's recently enacted new farm laws, on Tuesday Assam Krishak Sabha, Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), Students Federation of India (SFI) along with other unions staged a protest against the same issue in Guwahati.

The Assam Krishak Sabha, CITU, SFI, and others took to the street in Guwahati by supporting the protesting farmers of Delhi.

The protesters have condemned the attacks on farmers by the central government.

Speaking to media a protester said," Today in Assam we along with Centre of Indian Trade Unions, Students Federation of India and several other unions came out in supporting of the Delhi Farmer protesters. He said How could the government torture the farmers of the country? That we need to think about."

He further said, when the farmers of India turned violent in the protest, the government in terms of stop the protest called it the Anti-National movement.

The Indian farm reforms refer to three agricultural bills, all passed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government on Sept 20.

The government has claimed that its new laws will make agriculture effective in India and bring changes in agriculture through private investment.

However, farmers believe that if many people are forced to sell their property to corporates, they may lose land, which will deal directly with the production and marketing of goods.

In Delhi, more than 300,000 Indian farmers had marched upon Delhi and set up vast camps blocking entry to the city in protest at agriculture laws since last week.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will hold talks today with the farmers protesting in and around Delhi since last week ahead of the scheduled date of December 3, as hundreds of farmers, trickled in from Punjab at two borders of Delhi.

Union minister Narendra Tomar said, "on November 13, we had decided we will meet on December 3, but farmers are in a mood to protest. Hence we invite the Kisan union heads to Vigyan Bhawan on Tuesday (December 1) at 3 pm.
