First Day of GIDSAFF Raises Hopes For Movie Makers

GUWAHATI: The first Guwahati International Documentary – Short - Animation Film Festival (GIDSAFF), 2019 started on Tuesday at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra at Guwahati. The event is a three-day affair from January 22 to 24, 2019 and is organized by Jyoti Chitraban in association with Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Regional Government Film and Television Institute (DBHRGFTI).

Pabitra Margherita, Chairman Jyoti Chitraban said, “The short film directors of the Northeast did not have a platform to showcase their talent and through GIDSAFF, we are providing them that in their own land. In these three days, 105 short films and documentaries of 25 countries will be screened. A satellite version will be telecasted in six places.” Christopher Upham, Tracy Loth, Haobam Paban Kumar, Goutam Bora, Joshy Joseph were present during the Opening Ceremony of GIDSAFF.

National Film Award-winning film critic and filmmaker, Utpal Borpujari commented, “We always say that we do not have viewers of Assamese cinema. Through GIDSAFF, we are providing a wider scope and perspective. Cinema is a very powerful medium and it will help the people to understand life through both a national and international horizon.”
