Floating retro-bar gutted near Lachit Ghat in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The floating restaurant-bar Kaamakaazi, which was docked near the Lachit Ghat in Guwahati, erupted in a fire on Sunday night, leading to the complete destruction of the property. Sources mentioned that the fire started at around 10 p.m. and soon engulfed the entire boat. A total of seven fire tenders were reportedly pressed into service, and they managed to douse the inferno and prevent it from spreading to anything nearby. Although no injuries or deaths were reported because of the incident, the damages to the property are said to amount to lakhs of rupees. Explosions in several cylinders were also reported during the incident, which is speculated to have accelerated the spread of the flames.
