GUWAHATI: Smugglers are adopting newer tactics to achieve their specific ends, so are security personnel. Guwahati Railway Station is such a place which smugglers of all hues from the Northeast and those bound for the Northeast have to pass by.

In the instant cause a smuggler is seen trying to camouflage GRP personnel by attiring himself in camouflage fatigue. He even embossed C.R.P on his trunk to give security personnel a slip. The man Sumit Mishra (23) hailing from Faizabad in UP was one among four persons traveling from Agartala to Delhi by Agartala-Anand Vihar Rajdhani Express. The four include a woman Rushi Begum, her husband Prabir Alam (36) and Md Ashraful Alam.

While Prabir Alam and Rushi hail from West Tripura, Ashraful Alam is from Karimganj. They were carrying 70 kg ganja in 14 packets. The modus operandi is to evade suspicion from security personnel by giving an impression that Sumit is a CRPF personnel. However, GRP personnel caught them and seized the ganja. A case (35/19 under section 20(C) /29 of NDPS Act) has been registered.
