Gang of Gamblers assault journalist in broad daylight at Palasbari

GUWAHATI: In a bizarre incident, a gang of gamblers tied a journalist on an electric post and beat him up mercilessly in broad daylight at Moniyeri Tiniali under Palasbari Police Station on Sunday. The scribe was rescued by a few conscious citizens who had to intervene.

The incident came close on the heels of the mysterious accident that claimed the life of senior journalist Parag Bhuyan at Kakopathar in Tinsukia district.

According to the FIR filed by Milan Mahanta, a journalist reporting for two vernacular dailies of Guwahati, a gambling den comprising Sanjay Thakuria, Budu Thakuria and Biswajit Das struck him with sharp weapons. The trio then tied him with an electric post and beat him up mercilessly. They also snatched the golden chain from Milan's neck. When the three were trying to shift the journalist to another place, a few local people came to his rescue.

A case (515/20 u/s 341/324/325/34 IPC) has been registered under Palasbari Police Station to this effect. Various organizations condemned the incident and demanded arrest of the culprits within 24 hours.
