Garbage generated during Bol-Bom irks residents in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: Bol-Bom was celebrated with religious vigour in Guwahati along with the rest of the country. But the dirt and garbage generated by the devotees during the festival has irked the people of the city.

Devotees visit different temples of Lord Shiva on Monday mornings for a month to offer their prayers to the deity. As devotees walk towards these temples, others make arrangements for food, water and other consumables for the devotees. But because of the lack of any regulations and enforcement to ensure proper garbage disposal after the distribution of the consumables, major parts of the city become very dirty after the event.

With the lack of ample steps to control such distribution efforts or to ensure that they take care of the disposal of the garbage, people coming out for morning walks face the biggest problem because of these actions. And it worsens as the number of vehicles plying on the road increases during the day.

In view of this problem, local people have demanded that the GMC takes concrete action against the indiscriminate distribution of consumables on the roadside during such events and festivals and whoever is permitted to carry out such drives, is held liable for the garbage generated.
