GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police had recently summoned Indian Youth Congress (IYC) president Srinivas Bhadravathi Venkata to appear at Dispur police station on May 2 in connection with a case filed by former president of Assam Youth Congress, Angkita Dutta. In a notice sent to Srinivas BV, East Guwahati ADCP Moitrayee Deka asked him to appear before her at Dispur Police Station in Guwahati on May 2 at 11:00 am. However, Srinivas did not appear at Dispur Police Station today.

Meanwhile, Srinivas had moved the Gauhati High Court for anticipatory bail. The petition (AB/1556/2023) under Section 438 Cr.PC, was filed for granting the privilege of pre-arrest bail to Srinivas apprehending arrest in connection with Dispur PS Case No. 692/2023 under Sections 509/294/341/352/354/354A(iv)/506 of the IPC read with Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000.

Angkita Dutta had alleged in the FIR that Srinivas had been persistently harassing her mentally with sexist and slang words and also threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the same before the high office bearers of the Congress party. Dutta further alleged that despite informing about Srinivas’ behaviour before the senior leaders of the Congress, it did not yield any result and hence she lodged the instant FIR.

In the previous hearing in the case (AB/1556/2023), the court had asked the Public Prosecutor to submit the case diary in today’s hearing. However, the Advocate General, Assam informed the court today that the Public Prosecutor was away at Bengaluru in connection with another petition of Srinivas filed under Section 438 Cr.PC. The court was further informed that the Public Presecutor “shall appear and plead on behalf of the State in the instant petition copy of which is also not available with him and on the other hand, as the case diary is also not received by him, the matter can be heard day after tomorrow, that is, on 04.05.2023”. The court, therefore, fixed the hearing for the pre-arrest bail application on May 4, 2023.
