Welcoming the guests and participants, president of GUOA & DSW, GU, Dr Ranjan Kumar Kakati said that holistic development means the development of intellectual, mental, physical, emotional, and social abilities in a child so that he or she is capable of facing the demands and challenges of everyday life. These abilities are vitally important for success in professional fields of work. Inaugurating the webinar Prof Pratap Jyoti Handique, Vice-Chancellor, Gauhati University said that a social eco-system is highly essential for holistic development of an institution. To create a positive work culture every stakeholder of the university must cooperate for betterment of the institution. Prof Handique also appreciated the initiative taken by Gauhati University Officers Association in organizing the webinar.

Key resource person of the webinar Dr Sampson David, former Joint Secretary, Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi said that education with a holistic perspective is concerned with the development of every person's intellectual, emotional, social, physical, artistic, creative, innovative and spiritual potentials. It seeks to engage students in the teaching/learning process and encourages personal and collective responsibility. Holistic development through education from the early stage of a child's life has become more important today than in the last century. Focusing on the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Dr David said every child is unique. He or she has unique personality traits, interests, preferences, values, attitudes, strengths, and weaknesses. The educational curriculum must be able to help every child find his or her unique place in the world in alignment with the uniqueness that he or she has. In order to achieve this, the holistic development of a child is of utmost importance.

Around 100 participants from different parts of the country, Gauhati University fraternity and National Service Scheme (NSS) officials participated in the webinar.
