GUWAHATI: Teaching and non-teaching staff of the Gauhati University (GU) took part in a protest that was organized by the Gauhati University Teacher’s Association on Thursday, demanding the cancellation of the New Pension Scheme (NPS).

The protesting professors and officials said that the newly introduced NPS increases the burden on all the employees and hence demanded the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). With the increased participation from the various sections of the employees of the university, including professors and staff from multiple departments, it remains to be seen if the concerned government departments pay heed to these demands of the public.

Earlier, on the occasion of Teachers’ Day, the Education Minister mentioned that a detailed discussion needed to take place to handle the problems. But no details of any such possible discussions were released.
