Guwahati: With cases of Covid as well as Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) registering a marked increase in the State, the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) has prepared 302 beds as well as ICUs to cope with any emergency situation as and when the need arises.
According to the Superintendent of the GMCH, Abhijeet Sarma, six patients have died of JE in the hospital in the last few days. He said that 39 JE patients had been admitted to the GMCH since April last, out of whom 10 are in the ICU. He added that another 137 patients suffering from AES had been admitted to the GMCH since April, out of whom 58 are still undergoing treatment.
Sarma urged people to take all precautionary measures like wearing of masks and also seek medical attention if anyone develops symptoms of Covid, JE or AES.
