GUWAHATI: The Government Braille Press at Basistha is ready for its printing duties for the forthcoming polls.

The main role of the Press will be to convert various data into Braille script for the visually impaired under the direction of the Election Department. It will also prepare around 7,500 voter slips for the visually impaired.

Established under the Social Welfare Department, the Government Braille Press is equipped with modern machinery such as the Interpoint 55 Embosser Printer, said sources. The made-in Belgium printer is one of the fastest printers in the world with a capacity to print 1,800 Braille pages in an hour. Another printer - Braillo Norway 600 is also a top notch printer with high capabilities, said a source.

The Press is hopeful that they will be able to prepare the date within the stipulated time allotted by the Election Department.
