Government Railway Police seized cigarettes, five arrested in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Monday carried out operations in various areas of the city and seized 376 cartons of contraband foreign cigarettes, along with arresting five persons.

According to GRP sources, the seizures were made from areas such Fancy Bazar on the basis of information provided by two New Jalpaiguri-based youths - Raja Swarnakar and Rana Swarnakar - who had been arrested yesterday with contraband foreign cigarettes from the Kamakhya Railway Station. The three persons who were arrested during subsequent raids in the city have been identified as Ashok Jain, Abhay Jain and Abhishek Jain.

All five were produced in court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

According to the sources, the seizure yielded 3,76,000 cigarettes.
