GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal greeted the people of the State and outside on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu.

In a message on Sunday, Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said, “Let me take the pleasure to greet my brothers and sisters of Assam and outside on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu. The spontaneous celebrations of this festival of feast and merriment in the backdrop of agricultural harvest, essentially show an intrinsic relation of the people of Assam with agriculture which is the mainstay of the people of the state”.

He also said, “Hope the flames of Mejis consign all the negative vibes and usher in peace, prosperity and fulfilment all around the society”. He also said that the celebrations of the Bihu by the people irrespective of all class, caste and creed prove the festival’s universal character which strengthens the bond of unity and camaraderie in the society.

In another statement, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said, “Celebrations of Bhogali Bihu in traditional fervour associate our younger generations with our unique culture and bring us together on a common platform and strengthens the bond of friendship and camaraderie”. He said that one of the vital components of Bhogali Bihu that is setting the Mejis on fire has a very sacred connotation. He further added that the flames of Mejis consign all the ill feelings and evil forces and strengthen the harmonious co-existence of the people belonging to Barak, Brahmaputra, hills and plains. He also said that the community feast organized on the occasion of Bhogali Bihu is indeed a testimony of prosperity and equality that this the festival stand for.
