Governor Jagdish Mukhi congratulates people of Assam on being 5th literate State

In a statement Professor Mukhi said, "It gives me immense pleasure to learn that with a literacy rate of 85.9 percent, Assam holds the fifth position in the country, according to the report on education released by the National Statistical Office (NSO) survey. I heartily congratulate and appreciate the efforts of the people of the state and my Government for taking keen interest in education. I believe, with more efforts, dedication and commitment we can reach the top." According to a release, as per 2011 census Assam with 72.2% literacy rate was in the 28th position.
