Governor Jagdish Mukhi opens tribal youth exchange programme

GUWAHATI: Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi called upon the youths to imbibe a pan-India outlook and contribute to a belief envisioned for creating ‘Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat’.

Speaking at a Tribal Youth Exchange Programme at Don Bosco Institute, in Kharguli on Monday, Governor Mukhi called upon the participants to inculcate the habits to promote unity in diversity and strengthen the edifice of India, a union of states. He said, “We are Indian first and then we belong to any community”.

He also said that he was happy to be present at the inauguration of Tribal Youth Exchange Programme of NSS, the delegates of which attended from different States of India. He also said that he was impressed with the voluntary organization of NSS dedicated to the growth and development of young people of India, especially the tribal population.

The Governor also said that, to elevate the position of the tribal community socially, educationally and economically, the present Government has attached great importance. He also said that a separate ministry has been formed to look after the affairs of the tribal communities. Budgetary allocation has also been made substantially for the implementation of various schemes and programmes meant for the tribal communities.

He further asserted that in order to protect the rights, culture, rituals etc of the tribal communities they should be educated first. Education should be made compulsory for all and should be brought at their doorsteps. At present, five Ekalavya Model Residential Schools have been constructed and another 12 are on the pipeline in the state.

Highlighting the importance of youth exchange programme, the Governor hoped that the programme would sensitize the tribal youths to work towards unity in diversity. The programme would also provide an opportunity to the tribal youths to understand the cultural ethos, language, lifestyles of the people belonging to different states of the country and at the same time highlight the socio-economic and cultural traits of their own states to others.

The Governor also urged the youths to mingle with everyone and learn from each other and be ambassadors of friendship and universal brotherhood.

It may be mentioned that 300 NSS volunteers from the northeast and 200 volunteers from all other states participated in this tribal youth exchange programme. The programme was attended by the Regional Director of NSS Dipak Kumar, State Chief Information Commissioner of Arunachal Pradesh Dr. Joram Begi, Executive Director of Don Bosco Institute Father P.D.John, Vice-Provincial Father Joseph Teron, NSS volunteers along with a host of other dignitaries.
