GUWAHATI: The Greater Guwahati Qureshi Meat Association (GGQMA) has fixed the new price of mutton by reducing it from Rs 600 to Rs 560 a kg.
Talking to the media in Guwahati on Monday, association’s general secretary Makbul Ahmed said: “The decision for reduction in mutton price has been taken in accordance with a decision taken in our general meeting held on May 11, 2019. The price of mutton had to be hiked up to Rs 600 a kg only because of the government slaughter house that charged a much higher rate for slaughtering. However, the government slaughter house has been closed now for a few days, and this has let us sell mutton at a lower price. The new mutton price will be effective from May 14, 2019.”
Ahmed has requested all people associated with mutton business to reduce the price of mutton so as to keep the commodity flowing to the city also to meet the demand of meat eaters in Guwahati. He said: “If the price of mutton isn’t reduced in rural areas, people will stop sending goats to Guwahati for getting higher prices in their respective areas.”
