GUWAHATI: The phase 1 of the two-phase second gunatsav going to start from class II-IX in 16 districts from December 3-6 this year is set for a clash with the academic calendar. The evaluation of school education is going to start despite opposition from many district Samagra Shiksha bodies and teachers.

On October 1, the Samagra Shiksha, Assam had its meeting in Guwahati on various issues, including the Gunatsav. This year the Samagra Shiksha has decided to conduct Gunatsav at the fag-end of the academic year. While the annual examination of Class IX is scheduled from December 7-14, 2019, the first phase of Gunatsav is to be held from December 3-6, 2019. The school authorities feel that such a clash of schedules will land them in troubled waters.

The second phase of Gunatsav scheduled from December 17-20, 2019 in 17 districts is also not free from troubles as the schools will be busy in evaluation of examination scripts and announcing results of the annual examinations, besides getting ready for the next academic session.

Meanwhile, Asom Madhyamik Shikshak aru Karmachari Santha general secretary Govinda Chandra Kalita said in a statement to the media, “All secondary schools in the State will start annual examinations from the first week of December. All stakeholders – teachers, students and parents – will remain busy with the annual examinations. If the Gunatsav too is conducted at the same time, it’ll have its cascading effects on the examinees. If the Gunatsav is conducted from the first week of January next year, there won’t be any such clash of calendars. We’ve already made our problems known to the Mission Director of the SSA (Sarba Skhiksha Abhiyan).”
