Guwahati: Assam CM Inaugurates Bihu Sanmilani At Latasil Playground

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday inaugurated the Guwahati Bihu Sanmilani at Latasil playground.

He also extended Bihu greetings to the people of Assam.

"Rongali Bihu is the life of Assamese. Bihu carries our national heritage. I urge the people of Assam to live with unity and harmony," he said.

He further took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and said, ''On the occasion of Assamese New Year and Rangali Bihu, we extend our best wishes to all the people of the state as well as to the Assamese people at home and abroad.''

Sarma further asserted that the traditions of Rongali Bihu must be carried out in future too.

Notably, the state is ready to celebrate the Rongali Bihu, marking the Assamese New Year, starting tomorrow.

For the past two years, the celebration was halted following the COIVD-19 induced lockdown. However, this time without any restrictions, the government has allowed celebrating the Rongali Bihu.

Apart from these, the Assam government has also given a grant of Rs 1.50 lakh to each Bihu Committees that are over 10 years old.
