Guwahati: The Guwahati Police on Monday apprehended a deputy manager of Axis bank for allegedly stealing money from the bank accounts of customers.
The bank manager was identified as Iftikon Haque Choudhury.
As per reports, Choudhury was involved in stealing money from customers' bank accounts by using their ATM card passwords when she was working with another bank named HDFC.
Reports claimed that so far Choudhury stole Rs 1,75,000 by using various ATM cards so far.
Meanwhile, police the matter is being investigated by the police and it has also come to the fore that the accused Choudhury has confessed her crime.
Earlier in this month, a protest broke out against the bank manager of Gramin Vikash Bank in Assam's Sonari district over the alleged mistreatment of customers.
During the protest, they alleged that the bank manager, identified as Bishnu Hazarika often mistreats his clients.
The protestors staging demonstrations outside the bank sought the suspension of the bank manager for his alleged ill-treatment of the customers.
"He has been abusing many consumers in a very disrespectful manner and a handful number of people are stepping forward with their resentment and injustice made by the bank manager," said one of the protestors.
Besides this, a woman also mentioned that the bank has not been able to update her passbook since 2020 and her KYC too has not been renewed yet.
The protestors further stated that the bank always refuses to solve their issues by making excuses. They also claimed that they don't receive any messages pertaining to their bank transactions.
