Guwahati-based animal welfare organization provides care to domesticated animals near Kaziranga

Guwahati: As floods and landslides ravage Assam, humans, and animals have suffered in equal measure, with scores losing their lives in the deluge.

Taking cognizance of this, JBF (INDIA) TRUST commonly known as JBF (Just Be Friendly), a Guwahati based animal welfare organization in association with international organization Help Animals India and District Animal Husbandry and the Veterinary Department of Golaghat, provided post-flood veterinary support to the flood-affected domesticated animals (both big and small) and birds on August 20 and 21.

The operations were conducted at Mohpara, Lukhurakhonia, Domjan, Domjan, and Gosanibor - five fringe area villages of Kohora range in the Kaziranga National Park.

Treatment of suffering animals was done and de-worming medicines, as well as medicines for other diseases, feed supplements, supportive therapies, were provided free of cost during this drive. Around

As per the JBF, 3,520 flood-affected animals of 320 households of the five villages were covered during the drive.

Dr. Sashanka Sekhar Dutta, Chief Functionary of JBF informed that the team JBF has been helping the flood-affected animals since 2012 and is determined to continue to help these innocent animals till every possible extend in coming days as well.

"We cannot help animals during floods as we do not have a rescue team. However, we intervene in the post-flood scenario when people are busy rebuilding their lives. We put special emphasis on helping the fringe areas are they are directly related to the wildlife", Dutta told The Sentinel Digital.
