GUWAHATI: Guwahati Police Commissioner MP Gupta has said that unlike the earlier lockdowns, this lockdown in Guwahati is going to be a tougher one. People violating lockdown rules will have to face punitive action under Indian Penal Code and under various sections of the Disaster Management Act, he said.

Talking to the media here on Saturday, the Police Commissioner said, "We want cooperation from the people not to go out of their houses untill and unless they've any medical emergency. Only ten per cent the bank branches in the city will function with skeleton staff. All banks should issue special permission to their employees who should also carry their identity cards along with the permissions while going for duty. Likewise, if any third and fourth grade employees of directorate and secretariat happen to attend duty during the lockdown, they'll have to take passes and I-cards from their respective departments."

He further said, "People from outside Guwahati can enter Guwahati only under three conditions – if they've any medical emergency, if they are to take flight (must show air ticket) or train (must show train ticket)."
