GUWAHATI: Another murder in the city has hit the headlines. Jainuddin Ahmed (45) was found dead in a house in the city's Hatigaon area on Tuesday morning. It is suspected that he was allegedly killed on Monday night.

Ahmed's body was recovered from a house (H/no. 42) in the Shankar Azan Path- French Path area of Hatigaon. The house belongs to retired engineer, Abdul Haque, who is in Hyderabad with his family for medical treatment. Jainuddin Ahmed lived in a rented house on the opposite side of the road. The Haque family had requested Ahmed to sleep in their house at night while they are away to guard the property.

On Monday night, after having dinner in his house, Ahmed went to sleep in Abdul Haque's house at around 11.30 pm. The next morning when he did not return home at the usual time, his wife called him up on his mobile phone. When he did not answer, the wife along with another person when to Haque's house to check on Ahmed.

The house has two storeys. Ahmed used to sleep in a room on the ground floor. His body was recovered from that room. There were injury marks on his forehead. The belongings in the room were scattered and the grill on the backside of the house was broken.

Police suspect it to be a case of robbery leading to murder. It is suspected that Jainuddin Ahmed may have identified the dacoits and hence they killed him. The police are waiting for the house owner to return so that they can inspect the other rooms, which are now locked, and ascertain whether anything has been stolen.

Jainuddin Ahmed hailed from Sipajhar and ran a small shop. He was earlier the imam of a mosque.
