GUWAHATI: The Kamrup (Metropolitan) district administration has allowed bars in the city to reopen from 10 am to 5 pm with strict adherence to social distancing norms and other COVID-19 protocols. However, most of the bar owners from the city's GS Road area has decided that they will not serve alcohol till August 15. According to the owners, amid the pandemic, no person will visit the bars to drink alcohol. They said that if they are to follow the guidelines — to be operational on alternate days, then they won't make be able to make any profit.
"According to the guidelines, while the bars on one side of the road will be opened for two days, the other will get three days. We have already incurred huge losses. If we open the bars for two days in a week then we will not be able to provide salaries to our employees," said an owner of a popular bar in the area.
