Guwahati: Police informed on May 24 that a person was murdered in what seems like an apparent dacoit break-in in the Hatigaon locality of Guwahati.

The incident occurred at house number 42 in Friend's path in Hatigaon. Initial inquiries indicate a break-in during which the person was killed.

The deceased person has been identified as Joinuddin Ahmed, who hailed from Sipajhar in the Darrang district of Assam. The police revealed that Joinuddin was an Imam and he was also running a grocery store in Hatigaon.

As per the police, the imam was living as a caretaker in the residence of Abdul Haque, who happened to be a PWD engineer and is now in Hyderabad to avail of treatment.

The attacker reportedly sneaked into the house by stealthily penetrating through the grill on the night of May 23. The police suspected that Joinuddin was murdered as the attempted break-in went wrong.

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and they are on the hunt to trace down the culprit.

Meanwhile, in a sensational development, Guwahati-based entrepreneur and actor George Bordoloi died of suicide on May 24 and has accused Vice-chancellor of Don Bosco University father Stephen Mavely of abetting his suicide in a note which he has left behind.

Stephen Mavely has been detained by the Sonapur police for interrogation.

It is to be mentioned that father Mavely had earlier accused Bordoloi and his son of destroying the property of Don Bosco University and even lodged an FIR against the duo.

Bordoloi allegedly took the extreme step after he could not tolerate the allegation levelled against him which he said was false in his suicide note.
