Guwahati: Indrapur Hill Top, Lichubagan, and Bathou Nagar declared Containment Zones

5 areas in Guwahati city have been declared as Containment Zones by the Kamrup (M) administration in the past 24 hours

Guwahati: Three more areas in Guwahati, the largest city of Assam, have been declared as Containment Zone after the detection of Covid-19 positive cases. These three areas are the Indrapur Hill Top area, Lichubagan in Hengerabari, and the Bathou Nagar near Geeta Mandir. Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Biswajit Pegu directed the circle officer, Guwahati revenue circle, to seal three areas with immediate effect.

The boundaries of the Indrapur Hill Top Containment Zone area are as follows:

North: Medical College Hostel

South: Hill AREA

East: 10 APBN Main Road

West: Part of Indrapur

The boundaries of the Lichubari Containment Zone are as follows:

North: Smashan Road

South: Nizarpur Road

East: Residence of Bhupen Das and others

South: Lakshminagar Link Road

The boundaries of the Bathou Nagar Containment Zone are as follows:

North: Residence of Fakuram

South: Assam State Zoo Campur

East: Japorihgog Hill

West: Village Road

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier in the day, two more areas, Krishna Nagar and the Guwahati Central Jail have both been marked as Containment Zones and sealed off for the general public.

With the addition of 38 more cases of the Covid-19 moments earlier, the tally in the state has now reached 2,153. While 459 patients have recovered, 1,687 cases are active. The death toll stands at 4 and the last death was reported on May 19.

The cases in India have continued to surge upwards despite severe restrictions due to nationwide curbs. In the last 24 hours, the country has reported 9,851 new Covid-19 cases and 273 deaths, taking the country's tally to 2,26,770. The death toll stands at 6,348. Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has announced that 70 percent of the deaths are due to comorbid conditions.
