GUWAHATI: In an event held on January 19, 2024, the Center for Innovation in Public Systems (CIPS) celebrated the remarkable strides in public service innovation at an award ceremony in Shillong. Pallav Gopal Jha, IAS, Managing Director of Guwahati Jal Board, and Panchami Choudhury, ACS, Secretary of GMDW&SB cum APD, JICA Assisted Guwahati Water Supply Project, was awarded with the distinguished “Awarding Innovation by the Center for Innovation in Public Systems” from the Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad. The prestigious award was presented by Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya.

Guwahati Jal Board secured this accolade for its groundbreaking e-governance and IT initiative, the “Web-Based Water Supply Connection Registration & Payment System.” This initiative, designed to streamline and modernize water supply services, emerged victorious from a rigorous selection process that involved presentations and evaluations by an expert committee at the Administrative Staff College of India.

The laudable IT/e-governance push by the Guwahati Jal Board aims to revolutionize the consumer experience by transitioning to a paperless and fully digitized system. The innovative “Web Based Water Supply Connection Registration & Payment System” caught the attention of the committee for its effectiveness and impact on enhancing public services.

It is noteworthy that Guwahati Jal Board’s commitment to excellence was further acknowledged with the recent receipt of the “SKOCH Award” for the same pioneering initiative. The dual recognition underscores the organization’s dedication to leveraging technology for the betterment of society.
