GUWAHATI: The Guwahati Jal Board has informed that the interruption in the water supply for the larger Hatigarh locality has been extended. This announcement comes after the authorities had announced a pause in services for repair works.

“We would like to inform our esteemed consumers that water supply will be interrupted on 26.10.23 in DMA6G4 having areas namely Bhaskar Nagar, Hatigarh Chariali, Sarbudoy Nagar etc. due to urgent repairing work at Hatigarh Chariali. We regret the inconvenience. Regards GMDW&SB, “ announced the Guwahati Jal Board over social media site X.

This development came to light after the recent incident of water pipeline leakage which took place in the Harigarh Chariali locality of the city on Tuesday. A major leak from the Guwahati Jal Board water supply project resulted in major chaos in the region and triggered fears of a possible repetition of the Kharghuli incident wherein one person had lost her life.

Local people also raised questions as to how long these incidents will continue across the city and the lives of the citizens remain at risk. They also demanded that a proper enquiry be done into the incident and that all people found guilty of negligence be punished.
