Guwahati: Guwahati Joint Commissioner of Police Partha Sarathi Mahanta on Sunday received the Netaji Garima Award by All Assam Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee.
Apart from the Mahanta, the other award recipients are Guwahati Municipal Commissioner (GMC) Debasish Sarma and Dr Hitesh Barua of Nemcare Hospital.
As per the committee, Mahanta was awarded for his outstanding contribution towards maintaining law and order and his effort towards bridging the gap between police and public.
Notably, every year, the committee presents the prestigious Netaji Garima Award on January 23rd to selected persons from the society.
The committee has been organising Netaji's Birthday successfully and the programme has been attended by Assam Chief Minister, Assam Governor, Ministers, MP's, MLA's and other leading persons of the society.
Today, the entire country is celebrating the 124th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, India's prominent freedom fighter and great revolutionary.
The Government of India has decided to start the celebration of Republic Day on 23 January on the special occasion of the birthday of Subhas Chandra Bose.
Netaji's birthday is also celebrated as Parakram Diwas.
