GUWAHATI: In a disturbing incident, a severe road accident took place in Guwahati's Ganeshguri area on Wednesday night, resulting in serious injuries to a motorcyclist and four individuals travelling in a vehicle.

As per reports, the mishap occurred when the occupants of a vehicle bearing Meghalaya-registered number plate were driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding in the streets of Ganeshguri. At one point, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, leading to a collision with a motorcycle and ultimately crashing into a nearby footbridge.

All five individuals involved in the accident, including the motorcyclist and the occupants of the 'i20' vehicle, suffered grave injuries. Later on, reportedly, the occupants of the vehicle were identified as youths from Meghalaya.

Right after the collision, bystanders came to the rescue, extracting the injured victims from the wreckage. Subsequently, all five injured individuals were swiftly transported to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) to receive necessary medical treatment.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported the presence of several alcohol bottles inside the vehicle, suggesting that drunk driving supposedly played a significant role in the accident.

Meanwhile, yet another road accident has taken place on the important road that connects the town of Mariyani in Assam to the town of Mokokchung in Nagaland on Wednesday night. The incident led to the severe injury of two people. According to local sources, an accident took place near the Sutafala Checkgate in Nagaland. A commercial vehicle skid off the road and became a victim of an approximately 200-foot drop. The Mahindra Bolero Pickup vehicle bearing registration number AS 03 BC 8068 fall into the deep gorge.

The vehicle was carrying items from Assam to Nagaland when this accident took place. Both the driver and the helper were severely injured because of the fall. Previously also an accident took place on the highway connecting Wokha to Kohima leading to the death of several people. According to local sources, the accident happened at around 6:30 AM in the morning at the Tseminyu district of the state of Nagaland. A passenger carrying a Tata Sumo vehicle on its way from Mokokchung and going towards Kohima collided with a dumper carrying sand. As a result, both vehicles went off the cliff into a 100-150 feet deep gorge.
