GUWAHATI: The newly-elected councillors, the Mayor and the Deputy Mayor of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) took oath today at its first meeting after the general elections to the civic body. The Kamrup (M) District Magistrate convened the meeting.

Kamrup (M) District Deputy Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha administered the oath of office to the newly-elected Mayor, Deputy Mayor and councillors. East Guwahati MLA Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Dispur MLA Atul Bora and Rajya Sabha MP Bhubaneshwar Kalita took oath as ex-officio members the function. Guwahati Municipal Corporation Mayor Mrigen Sharanya and Deputy Mayor Smita Roy were also administered the oath of office by Kamrup (M) DC Pallav Gopal Jha.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal said voters elected them with great hope. "So they have to work diligently in the next five years. They will get full cooperation and support from the government," he said.

Chief Minister's press advisor and MLA Jayantmalla Baruah, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Dass, Rajya Sabha MP Pavitra Margherita, former Lok Sabha MP Raman Deka, Guwahati Municipal Corporation Commissioner Debashish Sharma and others were present at the programme.
