GUWAHATI: The Health and Enforcement branches of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC), in association with District Tobacco Control Cell, Kamrup (Metro) and Assam Police, carried out a drive in the city against the selling of tobacco products in and around various educational institutions.
The drive was against selling of tobacco products around Gopal Bodo High School and Dispur College in Ganeshguri, Hengrabari LP School, Kendriya Vidyalaya at Khanapara and Srimanta Shankar Academy at Dispur.
They seized tobacco products from shops within 100 yards of the above-mentioned educational Institutions.
The Health branch of the GMC also conducted another inspection drive at the Chandmari Commerce Point. They found eight shops/business establishments violating GMC rules and regulations. The business establishments are Zip and Go, Commerce Point, Sikha Fast Food, D Corner, Café D Lili, Sinful Act Trending, Sinful Act Tattoo and J-14 Restaurant.
In yet another inspection, the Health branch of the civic body found four business establishments violating GMC rules and regulations. The civic body imposed Rs 82,000 as a penalty on them. The four business establishments are M/s Bhagabati Medical Hall, M/s Bambino, M/s BA Wine Shop and M/s Madhuram Sweets.
