GUWAHATI: The GMC (Guwahati Municipal Corporation) has lodged an FIR at the Geetanagar Police Station against some persons who alleged misbehaved and assaulted GMC officials.

According to a release from the GMC, the GMC workers were engaged in cleaning roads and sewages at Jonali, Zoo Road on June 7. GMC Joint Commissioner-I Satyajyoti Baruah along with other officials was inspecting the conservancy works of GMC.

"At around 11:00 pm a group of 4-5 persons got off from a Swift Desire car (AS01HC5235) and disposed garbage at the main road in front of a shop named M/s Junali Electricals. The GMC officials tried to restrain them from throwing garbage on the street and tried to make them understand the hard work that officials and workers of GMC are undertaking to keep the city clean. But they argued and threatened to repeat the same in future. One of the employees of GMC, Nagen Kalita, tried to videograph the entire incident but they started using abusive language and physically assaulted him. They even threatened to throw away and break the mobile phone and went away in the car," the release read.

One person indulged in the above incident has been identified as Asish Sarkar, a resident of house no. 72, Jonali, Zoo Road. He is also the landlord of the shop M/s Junali Electricals. The GMC has also initiated necessary action in this regard and the suspension of the trade licence of M/s Junali Electricals is under process, the release added.
